About me....
Rooster and I on Lake Ouachita
Born and raised in Southeast Louisiana, my enthusiasm for the outdoors
was cultivated at a young age by frequent hunting and fishing trips with
my father and his father. It wasn't until I became actively involved
with my son's Boy Scout Troop that I bloomed into a full blown outdoors
fanatic! Now I spend the majority of my day dreaming of the next hike
or canoe trip. My son Christian, a.k.a. "Rooster", my brother Jude, and I take every
opportunity to test our limits and enjoy an adventure together. Now
that I reside in up state Louisiana, every three day weekend or holiday,
I find myself planning a spur of the moment adventure into the Arkansas
Ozarks.
The trail name "Big Papa" was given to me by my son's boy scout troop. I am a rather large guy that doesn't mind showing his inner child at times. And there's nothing like a week long trek to fuel my enthusiasm!
This site will focus on sharing my passion for outdoor adventure and hopefully cultivating the interest in others. I hope to detail the highs and lows, capture the essence of the hike in pictures, and strive to give a little extra background to my adventures. I encourage everyone to live outside of their "comfort" zone and experience the thrill of accomplishment when becoming totally self reliant in out of the way destinations and situations. After all, I firmly believe that we all should strive to find our limitations and learn how to become reliant upon our own skills and talents rather than depend on others.
